The Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute is hosting the Short Course in Cold-Formed Steel Structures in conjunction with the CFSEI Expo at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
 The Short Course provides instructions on the analysis and design of cold-formed steel members and connections for both commercial and residential applications, including wall studs, floor joists, purlins, girts, decks and panels. It is eligible for 12 Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Early registration discount is available through December 31, 2026.
This comprehensive course is designed to benefit engineers at all levels of experience with cold-formed steel design. For engineers who are new to cold-formed steel, the course provides an introduction to the behavior of cold-formed steel members and connections and explains how these behaviors are addressed in AISI S100, North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members. For experienced engineers, the course reinforces and deepens their understanding of the fundamental behavior of cold-formed steel members and connections.

Instructors
Kara D. Peterman, Ph.D.
University of Massachusetts-Amherst
Dr. Kara Peterman is an Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. At UMass, Dr. Peterman investigates the sustainability and performance of our basic infrastructure focusing on resilient building design, infrastructure materials, and structural stability. Dedicated to professional service, she is a member of the AISC Task Committee on Members, the AISC Committee on Sustainability, the Cold Formed Steel Engineers Institute Executive Committee and is Chair of the Structural Stability Research Council (SSRC). She has been awarded for her teaching by UMass and AISC, and for her research contributions by AISC and ASCE. Prior to joining UMass, Dr. Peterman was a postdoctoral researcher at Northeastern University and received her PhD from the Johns Hopkins University.
Zane Clark, P.E., S.E.
Zane Clark, P.E., S.E. has a decade of experience evaluating and designing a wide variety of structures. His specialized expertise in the design of cold-formed steel (CFS) comes from years of design, project management, and quality control work on numerous load-bearing CFS structures, many of them having 10+ stories and complex CFS lateral force resisting systems. In his consulting work he has teamed up with architects, contractors, building owners, and other stakeholders, and he brings to the table practical solutions that work for all parties. He is highly familiar with the building and material codes, the latest design guidance from technical organizations, and engineering best practices. Zane continues to design CFS buildings through his firm, Zane Clark Consulting. He is a member of the ASCE/SEI Committee on Cold-Formed Steel Members and speaks on CFS design and construction at regional and national events, webinars, and trainings.
