2018 CFSEI AWARDS PROGRAM

PURPOSE

The purpose of the CFSEI Awards Program is to publicly acknowledge outstanding achievement in creative design, technical innovation, and best practices in the use of cold-formed steel and to publicly acknowledge individuals who have volunteered their time and talent to the CFS industry.

The winners of the 2018 CFSEI Design and John P. Matsen Award for Distinguished Service Awards will be announced at the 2018 CFSEI Expo being held on May 15 and 16 in San Diego, California.  Currently there are three categories: design excellence, innovative detail and distinguished service.

Design Excellence:  Projects that exemplify excellence in the structural design of new or renovated structures utilizing CFS products.  Awards will be given to eligible projects at the discretion of the Awards Committee regardless of the total number of projects submitted.

1st Place

Winning entry will receive one free CFSEI Expo registration, one free CFSEI membership, an award, public recognition via trade publications and social media, recognition on CFSEI web site and a 10 minute opportunity to present the project summary at the CFSEI Expo.

 2nd Place

Winning entry will receive 50% off one CFSEI Expo registration, one free CFSEI membership, public recognition via trade publications and social media, and a 10 minute opportunity to present the project summary at the CFSEI Expo.

3rd Place

Winning entry will receive one free CFSEI membership, public recognition via trade publications and social media, and a 10 minute opportunity to present the project summary at the CFSEI Expo.

AWARD CATEGORY II

Innovative Detail: Any cold-formed steel framing detail that exemplifies creativity or ingenuity to solve a design challenge.  Participants must submit a single engineered detail along with a brief summary outlining how the detail was used to resolve the design challenge. Submission of additional support documentation (such as calculations or design criteria) is encouraged but not required. 

Awards will be presented for an eligible engineered detail at the discretion of the Awards Committee regardless of the total number of entries submitted. In addition to the award, winner(s) will receive one free CFSEI membership and the opportunity to conduct a 10-minute presentation at CFSEI Expo. CFSEI will share information about the winning entries on its website and with construction media/social media outlets. 

AWARD CATEGORY III

John P. Matsen Award for Distinguished Service: To acknowledge the contributions of an individual who has volunteered their time, talent, and resources to the CFS industry.  One Award for Distinguished Service will be given.

 JUDGING CRITERIA AWARD CATEGORY I

Entries will be judged on demonstrated excellence and achievement in the use of cold-formed steel based on the following criteria:

  1. Design creativity
  2. Technical innovation
  3. And overall project excellence in cold-formed steel utilization.

JUDGING CRITERIA AWARD CATEGORY II

Entries will be judged on ability to solve a cold-formed steel design challenge based on the following criteria:

  1. Problem solving creativity

JUDGING CRITERIA AWARD CATEGORY III

Judging criteria for the Distinguished Service Award will be based on the following criteria:

  • Testimonial of the nominator to include contribution by individual to advance cold-formed steel in the marketplace.

The CFSEI Executive Committee will select the Distinguished Service Award recipient.

RULES OF ELIGIBILITY

  1. Any cold-formed  framing project is eligible.
  2. The project’s construction must have been completed by end of 2017.
  3. Entrants may submit more than one project.
  4. Projects previously submitted are eligible for re-submission; however, prior winners are not eligible.
  5. The John P. Matsen Award for  Distinguished Service Award nominee must be a CFSEI member in good standing.  CFSEI and SFA paid staff and members of the CFSEI Executive Committee are not eligible for nomination; paid consultants are eligible for consideration.  Nominations must be made by an individual other than the nominee.
  6. The entrant is solely responsible for any matters regarding confidentiality agreements related to the project.
  7. All entry materials will become the sole property of CFSEI, which reserves the right to publish some or all of the entry material.  The entrant warrants that s/he may legally transfer all publishing rights of any photos, renderings, or drawings submitted to CFSEI.  As well, by entering the Awards Program, the entrant grants a royalty and compensation free license to CFSEI to disseminate or publish any copy righted material submitted; the entrant also grants CFSEI the right to publish the names of the award recipients.
  8. Projects or individuals that do not meet eligibility requirements will not be considered for judging.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES

Entry packets must be received by 5:00 pm on March 30, 2018.  All entry packets should be clearly labeled “Submission for 2018 CFSEI Awards Program” and delivered or mailed to the following address:

Upon receipt of a complete entry submission, CFSEI will send an email confirming such receipt.  Representative of winning entries will be notified by e-mail not later than April 13, 2018.  The CFSEI 2018 Awards Program winners will be recognized as a part of the May 2018 CFSEI annual meeting.  Representatives of the winning entries and the Distinguished Service Award recipient will be asked to make brief presentations or statements upon receiving their awards.  If you have any questions or need clarification about the awards program requirements, please contact Maribeth Rizzuto at [email protected]  or by telephone 800-797-8335.
