ENTRIES DEADLINE FEBRUARY 18

The Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI), a national organization made up of structural engineers and other design professionals, is accepting nominations for the 2022 CFSEI Awards Program. Awards for Project, Creative Detail and Distinguished Service will be given. Nominations are due by February 18, 2022. Winners will be recognized at the 2022 CFSEI Expo in Denver and will be published in the CFSEI Newsletter and website. Winners will also be made available to professional journals through press releases.
 
The winners of the 2022 CFSEI Design and John P. Matsen Award for Distinguished Service Awards will be announced at the 2022 CFSEI Expo in Denver.
 

PURPOSE

The purpose of the CFSEI Awards Program is to publicly acknowledge outstanding achievement in creative design, technical innovation, and best practices in the use of cold-formed steel and to publicly acknowledge individuals who have volunteered their time and talent to the CFS industry.  
 

DESIGN EXCELLENCE

Projects that exemplify excellence in the structural design of new or renovated structures utilizing CFS products. Awards will be given to eligible projects at the discretion of the Awards Committee regardless of the total number of projects submitted.

FIRST PLACE

Winning entry will receive one free CFSEI Expo registration, one free CFSEI membership, an award, public recognition via trade publications and social media, recognition on CFSEI web site and an opportunity to present a brief project summary at the CFSEI Expo.

SECOND PLACE

Winning entry will receive one free CFSEI Expo registration, one free CFSEI membership, public recognition via trade publications and social media, and an opportunity to present the project summary at the CFSEI Expo.

THIRD PLACE

Winning entry will receive one free CFSEI membership and public recognition via trade publications and social media.

JUDGING CRITERIA AWARD CATEGORY I

Entries will be judged on demonstrated excellence and achievement in the use of cold-formed steel based on the following criteria:

  1. Design creativity
  2. Technical innovation
  3. And overall project excellence in cold-formed steel utilization.

CREATIVE DETAIL

Any cold-formed steel framing detail that exemplifies creativity or ingenuity to solve a design challenge.

Awards will be given for an eligible engineered detail at the discretion of the Awards Committee regardless of the total entries submitted. Winner(s) will receive one free CFSEI membership, an award, public recognition via trade publication and social media, and recognition on the CFSEI website. Winner(s) will also be required to present a brief presentation explaining the overall mechanics of the engineered detail at the CFSEI Expo.

JUDGING CRITERIA AWARD CATEGORY II

Entries will be judged on demonstrated excellence and achievement in the use of cold-formed steel based on the following criteria:

  1. Design creativity
  2. Ingenuity
  3. Design complexity

JOHN P. MATSEN AWARD FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE

To acknowledge the contributions of an individual who has volunteered their time, talent, and resources to the CFS industry. One John P. Matsen Award for Distinguished Service Award will be given.

JUDGING CRITERIA AWARD CATEGORY III

Judging criteria for the Distinguished Service Award will be based on the following criteria:
  1. Resume/ CV of the nominated individual
  2. Testimonial of the nominator
The CFSEI Executive Committee will select the Distinguished Service Award recipient.
 

RULES OF ELIGIBILITY

  1. Any project utilizing cold formed steel framing is eligible.
  2. The project’s construction must have been completed in 2020 or later.
  3. Entrants may submit more than one project.
  4. Projects previously submitted are eligible for resubmission; however, prior winners are not eligible. Projects still under construction are not eligible.
  5. The Distinguished Service award nominee must be a CFSEI member in good standing. CFSEI and SFA paid staff and members of the CFSEI Executive Committee are not eligible for nomination; paid consultants are eligible for consideration. Nominations must be made by an individual other than the nominee.
  6. The entrant is solely responsible for any matters regarding confidentiality agreements related to the project.
  7. All entry materials will become the sole property of CFSEI, which reserves the right to publish some or all of the entry material. The entrant warrants that he/she may legally transfer all publishing rights of any photos, renderings, or drawings submitted to CFSEI. By entering the Awards Program, the entrant grants a royalty and compensation free license to CFSEI to disseminate or publish any copyrighted material submitted; the entrant also grants CFSEI the right to publish the names of the award recipients.
  8. Projects or individuals that do not meet eligibility requirements will not be considered for judging

For each category the entry packet must contain the following:

CATEGORY I

  • Complete and submit an entry form for each project submitted.
  • Provide low-resolution photos and details for each project submitted. 

CATEGORY II

  • Complete and submit an entry form for each detail submitted.
  • Provide low-resolution photos or details

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE

  • Complete and submit an entry form for each nominee.

Entry packets must be received by 5:00 pm on February 18, 2022. 

All entry packets should be clearly labeled “Submission for 2022 CFSEI Awards Program” and delivered electronically. For additional submissions instructions, please contact [email protected].

Upon receipt of a complete entry submission, CFSEI will send an email confirming such receipt. 

Representatives of winning entries will be notified by e-mail no later than April 6, 2022.  The 2022 Awards Program winners will be recognized as a part of the 2022 CFSEI Expo.
